Poll: How many rushing yards will Latavius Murray get for Oakland Raiders?

Poll: How many rushing yards do you expect from Oakland Raiders running back Latavius Murray in 2016?

Last season, the Oakland Raiders ranked 29th in the league in rushing attempts and 28th in yards. Still, Latavius Murray finished the season with 1,066 rushing yards and six touchdowns.

He even made his first Pro Bowl in his first season as the starter. Regardless, Murray averaged 4.0 yards-per-carry, including just 1.9 after contact.

A deeper dive into Murray’s stats shows that he was not much better. , According to Football Outsiders, he ranked 29th in total value, 32 in value per play, and 43 in success rate.

Now, Oakland leads the league in offensive line spending with just above $40 million of their 2016 salary cap dedicated to the unit, according to the MMQB.

Thus far, Murry has not shown much in preseason. He did not rush for more than a six-yard gain through two preseason games. Murray did not start the final preseason game and he rotated in and out of the third game. He had less than 20 carries through three exhibitions.

Of course, it is only preseason and Murray still sits atop the depth chart. However, what should we expect from the third-year back in 2016? How many rushing yards will he finish the season with?

We have heard lots of talk about the players behind Murray. George Atkinson almost broke 100 yards in the first preseason game, and he took a kick return for a touchdown in the final preseason game.

Jalen Richard has also been the consistent talk of the offseason program, despite being an undrafted rookie.

Also, Taiwan Jones is still technically the No. 2 roster at this moment.

Plus, DeAndre Washington looked good in games and practice. The fifth-round pick is most likely to push Murray for carries.

Cover32′s James Arcellana writes that Murray will lose the starting job to Murray right around the second part of the season. He says it should actually happen earlier as the team can not ignore the reality.

Ultimately, Murray is the most complete back in that group.  Expect the Raiders to use Jones, Washington or Atkinson in special teams and to spell Murray in certain situations and formations. However, Murray is still the feature back behind a retooled offensive line.

An earlier piece on this website, said that the additions of Washington and improved offensive line should increase Murray’s production and the Raiders.
