Philip Rivers on fifth straight loss: 'It's pretty sickening'

By David Kenyon

The San Diego Chargers are mired in a slumped matched only by the Tony Romo-less Dallas Cowboys, and Philip Rivers held little back after losing to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

According to Ricky Henne of the team’s official site, Rivers was disgusted after losing for the fifth straight outing.

“It’s pretty sickening. … We just don’t have the answers right now. It’s not surrendering and saying we’re not good enough. I’m not saying we’re surrendering, but we are what we are, and right now, that’s 2-7 on a five game skid.”

Not only has San Diego fallen in five consecutive outings, but it’s lost by no more than one possession every single time.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (five-point margin of victory), Green Bay Packers (seven), Oakland Raiders (eight), Baltimore Ravens (three) and Bears (three) each edged the Chargers in deflating fashion.

Unfortunately for Rivers and Co. the schedule doesn’t get much easier. San Diego has four road games remaining on the slate, including a pair of matchups opposite the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs and one against a playoff-contending Oakland Raiders team.

Rivers must navigate that stretch with an injury-depleted roster. Leading receiver Keenan Allen is out for the season, No. 2 wideout Malcom Floyd could be sidelined for the year, veteran tight end Antonio Gates is banged up and the Chargers offensive line is a revolving door at best.

If that’s not sickening and frustrating for a quarterback, then what is?
