Philip Rivers just laid waste to the Chargers' passing records
It's a shame Philip Rivers couldn't seal a late victory over the Packers.
It would've been the cherry on top of the greatest passing performance in Chargers team history. Just consider what Rivers did to a top-10 defense on Sunday:
1) He set new Chargers records for completions (43), attempts (65) and passing yards (503).
2) He came two completions short of Drew Bledsoe's single-came NFL record (45).
3) He notched a 500-yard passing day; the first such day in team history.
Each record is more impressive than the next. And for good measure, Rivers threw two touchdown passes and no interceptions.
A third scoring pass would've put tied him for third-most in the league this year. It also would've lifted his team over the NFC's prohibitive favorite.
That doesn't make Rivers' game -- and overall season -- any less spectacular.
