Philadelphia Eagles need a shake-up at wide receiver

The Philadelphia Eagles are missing an crucial piece to their offense: A wide receiver that’s actually good.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and call the Philadelphia Eagles receiving corps a complete dumpster fire.

Of course, there are a lot factors that went into the Eagles’ loss against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night. Wendell Smallwood‘s fumble certainly didn’t do the Eagles any favors and Doug Pederson‘s coaching was questionable to say the least. But the lack of production from Philadelphia’s receiving corps was alarming and completely unacceptable, which is what really ended up killing the Eagles against their division rival Sunday night.

Eagles receivers had 4 drops against the Cowboys. One of which came from Nelson Agholor on a play that probably could have gone for a touchdown in the red zone.

When asked about the drop after the game, Agholor’s response wasn’t exactly a positive one.

“No one is perfect. I don’t look at no drops, or that type of [stuff]. I’m tired of hearing that [stuff]. It’s just stupid.”

Actually, no, it’s not stupid. It’s a problem. Especially for a player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

But it isn’t just Agholor having trouble holding onto the football. Even Jordan Matthews, the Eagles’ best receiver, is letting balls slip through his hands far more often than any No. 1 receiver should.

Things clearly are not working for Eagles wideouts and a shakeup may be necessary to get things headed in the right direction.

It’s been rumored that the Eagles are in play to make a trade for a proven veteran pass-catcher. Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery are two names that have been connected to the Eagles over the last week and it may be in the team’s interest to make those rumors a reality. If the Eagles were to make a trade for either Smith or Jeffery, that player would immediately become the team’s best pass-catcher and give Carson Wentz a more reliable option downfield.

The Eagles are behind, but not out of the NFC East race. Unfortunately, it’ll be close to impossible to make much of a run without any playmakers on offense.

Right now, they have none. And that needs to change.
