Peter Schrager Podcast: Donovan McNabb gives Week 1 preview

Making the transition from NFL quarterback to TV personality, six-time Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb talks about making the adjustment on the Peter Schrager Podcast.

McNabb, who sits as an NFL analyst on FOX Sports Live, also previews the first week of football among other things. Never afraid to speak his mind, McNabb dived into a wide range of topics on the 33-minute podcast.

*While the former Eagles quarterback is eager to see how head coach Chip Kelly will put together another season of offensive masterpieces, he wants to see the team defend better. The up-tempo offense has evolved, but will be without wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who was released this past offseason. It's something that McNabb believes is an addition by subtraction.

"I think so," McNabb said. "When a new coach comes in he wants to see who is going to buy into his philosophies ... who's going to ride with him. And if you veer, that's one in the books.

"I thought Chip Kelly wasn't able to express himself to the team and have guys flow and follow along with what he was teaching with DeSean there."

*After working with Andy Reid for a decade in Philly, McNabb detailed his relationship with his former head coach. The retired quarterback terms the relationship as "great."

*Ten years after the magical 2004 season in Philly, McNabb says a reunion of some sorts is in the works. Looking back, he feels that the 2005 team splintered and players bought into their own hype after the success.

*Did Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald ever recruit McNabb to the Eagles? We're not quite certain, but he did mention Fitzgerald had a key role in luring Kevin Kolb to the desert. The following season, Fitzgerald tried to do his best to get Peyton Manning in Arizona's red and white. McNabb, who noted that he and Fitzgerald maintain a tight relationship, believes the aging wide receiver understands his career is dwindling as the team looks to feature Michael Floyd more in the offense.
