Patriots cut WR Chris Harper one day after botching punt

One of the turning points in the New England Patriots' first loss on Sunday night came when wide receiver Chris Harper muffed a punt in the fourth quarter. The Denver Broncos recovered and scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive, and ultimately went on to win the game.

One day after botching the punt, Harper was released by the Patriots as the team announced on Monday.

Harper hadn't recorded a catch for the Patriots this season, but he did return three punts for 17 yards after taking over for the injured Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola. With both players out, the Patriots have been searching for a full-time punt returner, but it hasn't worked out.

Fortunately, Amendola could return this week, alleviating all concerns at the spot. He's an impact player returning punts and can help flip field position for New England when he gets his hands on the football.
