Panthers take WR Adams from Arkansas in NFL draft

The Panthers selected wide receiver Joe Adams from Arkansas with the second of back-to-back picks in the fourth round, giving Cam Newton another weapon on offense.

A four-year starter for the Razorbacks, Adams had his most productive season in 2011 as a senior with 54 catches for 652 yards.

Adams has an explosive burst and impressive ability to run after the catch.

It's unclear where he'll fit for the Panthers.

They re-signed Steve Smith to a long-term contract this offseason, but didn't re-sign Legedu Naanee. Number three receiver Brandon LaFell is coming off a solid season and is expected to be a major part of the offense. Also, wide receiver David Gettis is expected to return from a torn ACL and could compete with LaFell for a starting position.
