Panthers LB Thomas Davis gives 650 students backpacks full of school supplies
With the NFL regular season nearly upon us, so is back-to-school time for kids across the country. That means millions of parents will be heading to Staples and Target to get their children ready for the upcoming school year.
Unfortunately, not every family can afford even the most necessary school supplies. Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis is trying to change that.
On Friday, Davis and a handful of other Panthers visited Devonshire Elementary School in Charlotte as the linebacker handed out more than $22,750 worth of school supplies to 650 students. The supplies were distributed in backpacks.

"Growing up in a single-parent household, I understand what it's like to go to school without basic supplies like paper and pencils," Davis said via ESPN. "I am blessed to be in a position to give back and help youth succeed both in and out of the classroom."
It’s an incredibly kind gesture by Davis and proves why he was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2014. With acts like this in the community, he could very well win it again this year.
