Panthers announce Cam Newton will miss Monday's game against the Buccaneers
After suffering a concussion on Sunday and missing practice all this week, the Carolina Panthers on Saturday officially ruled out QB Cam Newton for Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) and LT Michael Oher (concussion), among others, will also miss Carolina's Week 5 game.
While reports this week indicated that Newton would be unavailable on Monday, coach Ron Rivera told reporters on Friday that he hoped to see how Newton was feeling this weekend before making a final decision.
Derek Anderson will start in Newton's place for a disappointing 1-3 Panthers team that already trails the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons by two games.
For the season, Newton has completed 77-of-133 passes (57.9 percent) for 974 yards, six TDs and 5 INTs. Newton has been sacked 13 times (or 8.9 percent of his drop backs) this season, which would be a career-worst sack rate.
