Outside of Beckham, Eli's supporting cast struggles again
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has just three touchdowns and four interceptions over his past two games after finishing his first 10 games with 21 touchdowns and just six interceptions. The Giants' inability to find any offensive success outside of Manning to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been present all season, but it really showed up in the Week 13 23-20 loss to the New York Jets.
Once again, wide receiver Rueben Randle, who was expected to be the team's No. 2 option when Victor Cruz got injured, failed to make any kind of impact on offense. He finished with two catches for 22 yards on six total targets. Dwayne Harris, the team's third wide receiver, hauled in just one catch for eight yards. The only receiver outside of Beckham to top 22 yards was tight end Will Tye who finished with 70 yards on three receptions.
Once again, the running game could not get going. The Giants once again leaned on their four-man running back by committee, and each player struggled. As a team, the Giants finished with just 74 yards rushing on 24 carries.
For a third consecutive game, the Giants were forced to make a change along the offensive line in the middle of the game. Left tackle Ereck Flowers injured his ankle, and the Giants shuffled left guard Justin Pugh to his spot and Dallas Reynolds filled in at left guard. Rookie Bobby Hart also started and finished the game at right tackle for the injured Marshall Newhouse.
The Giants are lacking playmakers outside of Beckham and the health along the offensive line necessary to sustain a consistent offense. The Giants finished 0-of-3 in red zone opportunities and 4-of-15 on third down conversions against the Jets in Week 13.
Odell Beckham: 149 yards receiving on 11 targets. Everyone else: 148 yards on 23 targets. Randle 2 catches on 6 targets. Yuck. #Giants
