Oakland Raiders With League Best 7 Players Named to Pro Bowl

The Oakland Raiders lead the NFL with 7 players being named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster.

The Pro Bowl rosters for both the AFC and NFC were announced, and the Oakland Raiders lead the way with 7 players being selected. That’s right — the Raiders lead the entire NFL in Pro Bowl selections.

Derek Carr, Amari Cooper, Donald Penn, Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson, Khalil Mack and Reggie Nelson are the players who were selected.

Michael Crabtree, Gabe Jackson, Latavius Murray, Jamize Olawale, Sebastian Janikowski, Marquette King and Jalen Richard (as a return specialist) were named alternates.

Crabtree, Jackson, Murray, Olawale and King all have solid cases to have been included, as opposed to being alternates. Janikowski and Richard seem fair as alternates, and Bruce Irvin not being listed as an alternate is a glaring omission. While Reggie Nelson shouldn’t have been included at all.

With the high number of players who bail on the Pro Bowl each season, there is a strong chance that most of Oakland’s alternates will make their way to the game.

Per Raiders.com, the seven Raiders selected to are the most since the team had eight players named in 1991.

Donald Penn is the only left tackle in the NFL who is yet to allow a sack. He also has a touchdown reception, so Charles Woodson brought up a good point.
