No break for Jaguars QB Bortles after minicamp

The Jaguars conclude their three-day minicamp Thursday, after which the team will be off until the start of training camp later this summer. But while some players may take advantage of a last chance to relax before camp starts, quarterback Blake Bortles has no big vacation plans. Instead, he intends to continue his preparation for the upcoming season.

Bortles said he'll travel to California to continue his work with quarterback guru Tom House, who has been working with the second-year player on his mechanics and overall approach to the game. Otherwise, Bortles said he plans to spend the time off working out in Jacksonville.

”I’ll come in here and lift and watch (video) and do as much as I can,” Bortles said, via Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. “I think (backup QB) Chad (Henne) is going to be here for most of the off-season so we’ll meet and do stuff together.”

The 23-year-old Bortles, who was taken third overall in the 2014 draft, said he hopes to organize workouts at a local high school with some of Jacksonville's skill position players as well.

“I know a couple of the guys are planning on staying around and the rest will be in and out most of July so we’re going to play with whatever guys are here,” Bortles said.

Both the Jaguars and Bortles hope the extra work pays off in 2015. Last season, Bortles threw for 2,908 yards with 11 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
