NFL suspends Panthers G Robinson 4 games

The NFL has suspended Carolina Panthers guard Duke Robinson four games without pay for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Robinson is already on injured reserve, but he'll be able to serve the suspension over the final four games this season.

The Panthers entered training camp thinking the 2009 fifth-round pick from Oklahoma would win the open right guard spot. But Robinson showed up overweight and was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Robinson eventually hit the field, but couldn't overtake Mackenzy Bernadeau for the job. He was then placed on season-ending IR before the start of the season with a torn knee ligament.

Robinson played in only one game in 2009.
