NFL Roundup: On the Rams coaching carousel we go...

The Los Angeles Rams begin their search for a new head coach, the Dallas Cowboys get a boost running back, and the Baltimore Ravens have ended an NFL era.

The NFL is still coming to grips with Jeff Fisher being the first head coach fired of the 2016 season. He was terrible for an equally terrible Los Angeles Rams team. Mr. 7-9 was fired by the Los Angeles brass after he could finish no better than 7-9 in 2016 after getting boat raced at home by the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday 42-18. So on the Rams coaching carousel we go…

Despite obvious dysfunction, the Rams could be in line to land a top-tier head coach. This is because owner Stan Kroenke showed patience in nearly half a decade of so many 7-9 Fisher Rams teams.

Could the Rams be the team that gets Jon Gruden back into coaching? Will a Shanahan (Kyle or Mike) be the next main man with the Rams? How about a Patriots coordinator (Josh McDaniels or Matt Patricia)? Would the Rams seriously try to pry Pete Carroll from rival Seattle?

The Rams are desperate, but not having Fisher in charge anymore is hopefully a sign of better things to come for Los Angeles football. Jared Goff might actually flourish with an offensive-minded coach. Todd Gurley could be unleashed in the NFL by not playing in a middle school offense.

Other news from Tuesday has the Dallas Cowboys getting Darren McFadden back in their backfield. Dallas has an abundance of riches in the running back corps with Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris. Maybe a healthy McFadden –if there is such a thing– could be the piece that gets Cowboys over the top in the NFC Playoffs and on to Super Bowl LI?

Finally, we may have seen the end of an era in the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens cut the greatest return man of all-time in Devin Hester after Monday night’s loss in Foxborough. Hester was sensational for years with the Chicago Bears and he had a great 2014 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons.

However, his health concerns and ability to only effective games as a returner probably has him out of the league for good. Is he a Pro Football Hall of Famer? Maybe, but man, was he electrifying in his prime for the Bears.
