NFL Preseason: Top moments from Jaguars vs. Saints
It was Monday night, so that meant there was football to be played.
The Jacksonville Jaguars traveled to New Orleans to take on the Saints to conclude Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
And the Saints were able to hold on for a 23-21 win.
For the Jaguars, prized draft pick Trevor Lawrence completed 14 of 23 passes for 113 yards. Meanwhile, the Saints appear to know who their starting quarterback will be in Week 1 after an impressive outing from Jameis Winston.
The veteran quarterback completed nine of 10 passes for 123 yards and two touchdown passes in just two series of work.
Here are the top moments from Monday night:
Going deep
It didn't take long for the Saints to get on the board, scoring on their first drive of the game.
With the starting quarterback position up for grabs, Winston certainly helped his case to earn the job with his performance early, connecting on a 43-yard bomb to Marquez Callaway.
Run it back
The connection between Winston and Callaway was so nice they decided to do it twice.
The tandem hooked up for their second touchdown of the first quarter on a 29-yard strike that put Callaway over the 100-yard mark in the first quarter.
The second connection gave the Saints a 14-0 lead.
Taysom's time
Winston's opening performance was not going to be easy to top for Taysom Hill, but he still managed to leave his mark on the game in his own right.
In the third quarter, he led an eight-play, 72-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown pass from him to Lil'Jordan Humphrey to give the Saints a 23-3 lead.
Close, yet so far away
It was a rough night for the Jaguars offense, struggling to move the ball consistently and failing to score a touchdown through the first three quarters.
Midway through the fourth, they had a chance to finally crack the end zone, with Gardner Minshew leading the offense but an ill-fated interception in the red zone ended a promising drive.
If at first you don't succeed
The Jaguars made a quarterback change going to third-stringer C.J. Beathard late in the fourth quarter and he had the magic touch to finally get a touchdown on the board.
Beathard completed five of seven passes on the drive for 71 yards which ended with a passing touchdown to Jeff Cotton.
And Beathard continued to have the hot hand on the very next drive, throwing another touchdown pass and two-point conversion to bring the Jaguars within two points of the Saints.
But in the end, the Saints were able to hold off a late Jaguars rally for a 23-21 win.
