NFL power rankings, Week 5: Panthers, Cardinals tumble

It’s the Week 5 NFL power rankings, and they are certainly not what we expected to see.

32

Cleveland Browns

0-4

Last week: L, 31-20, at WSHLast rank: 32nd

The Browns are the only winless team in the NFL, and it might stay like that for a bit.31

San Francisco 49ers

1-3

Last week: L, 24-17, vs. DALLast rank: 31st

San Francisco is starting Blaine Gabbert at quarterback. Read that sentence again.30

Tennessee Titans

1-3

Last week: L, 27-20, at HOULast rank: 29th

If Marcus Mariota doesn’t start playing better, Tennessee will be lucky to win three games.29

Miami Dolphins

1-3

Last week: L, 22-7, at CINLast rank: 28th

At this juncture, the time has come to move on from Ryan Tannehill28

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1-3

Last week: L, 27-7, vs. DENLast rank: 25th

Jameis Winston needs to stop throwing interceptions. This team’s defense can’t handle that pressure.27

Detroit Lions

1-3

Last week: L, 17-14, at CHILast rank: 24th

The Lions are still the Lions. Move along.26

Chicago Bears

1-3

Last week: W, 17-14, vs. DETLast rank: 30th

If John Fox doesn’t continue to start Brian Hoyer, he should be fired on the spot.25

San Diego Chargers

1-3

Last week: L, 35-34, vs. NOLast rank: 21st

The Chargers could easily be 4-0, but instead are 1-3 and Mike McCoy is feeling the heat.24

New Orleans Saints

1-3

Last week: L, 35-34, at SDLast rank: 27th

Could the comeback in San Diego get the ball rolling? Nope, but it was still fun.23

Indianapolis Colts

1-3

Last week: L, 30-27, at JAXLast rank: 20th

Let’s save time. Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano are terrible.22

Jacksonville Jaguars

1-3

Last week: L, 30-27, at INDLast rank: 26th

Gus Bradley had his job saved on Sunday. Can he continue to keep it?21

New York Jets

1-3

Last week: L, 27-17, at SEALast rank: 18th

When your quarterback throws nine interceptions in two games, you’re going to lose two games.20

New York Giants

2-2

Last week: L, 24-10, at MINLast rank: 16th

Odell Beckham Jr. is the living version of Crying Jordan.19

Los Angeles Rams

3-1

Last week: W, 17-13, at AZLast rank: 26th

It’s very hard to take a team with Case Keenum seriously. Same with the Rams.18

Baltimore Ravens

3-1

Last week: L, 28-27, vs. OAKLast rank: 12th

Yes, Baltimore is 3-1. No, the Ravens are not a true contender. Too many issues. 17

Carolina Panthers

1-3

Last week: L, 48-33, at ATLLast rank: 10th

Carolina has real issues. Cam Newton is playing bad football and those corners are downright embarrassing.16

Arizona Cardinals

1-3

Last week: L, 17-13, vs. LALast rank: 9th

The Cardinals are all messed up offensively, something of a shock with all that talent.15

Buffalo Bills

2-2

Last week: W, 16-0, at NELast rank: 23rd

The offense is still lacking, but two impressive wins deserve this bump.14

Washington Redskins

2-2

Last week: W, 31-20, vs. BUFLast rank: 19th

Washington isn’t winning pretty, but it’s winning. That deserves a small move.13

Cincinnati Bengals

2-2

Last week: W, 22-7, vs. MIALast rank: 14th

Cincinnati looks like it is starting to come around. We’ll know more this weekend against Dallas.12

Kansas City Chiefs

2-2

Last week: L, 43-14, at PITLast rank: 8th

Kansas City is better than it looked on Sunday, but the offense is a total disaster.11

Houston Texans

3-1

Last week: W, 27-20, vs. TENLast rank: 15th

Houston is going to win the AFC South, but this team isn’t a true contender.10

Oakland Raiders

3-1

Last week: W, 28-27, at BALLast rank: 11th

The Raiders have won three road games, with two coming by a point. How good are they? Jury is still out.9

Atlanta Falcons

3-1

Last week: W, 48-33, vs. CARLast rank: 17th

Atlanta has an incredible offense. If the defense becomes average, look out.8

Dallas Cowboys

3-1

Last week: W, 24-17, at SFLast rank: 13th

The Cowboys have a terrifying offense with Ezekiel Elliott … and Dak Prescott? Yup.7

Seattle Seahawks

3-1

Last week: W, 27-17, at NYJLast rank: 7th

Seattle is completely back on track after taking care of business against the Jets.6

Philadelphia Eagles

3-0

Last week: BYELast rank: 6th

Philadelphia might be the best story in the NFL to this point.5

Green Bay Packers

2-1

Last week: BYELast rank: 4th

Green Bay is going to be a terror for anybody going forward with that offense beginning to roll.4

New England Patriots

3-1

Last week: L, 16-0, vs. BUFLast rank: 1st

The Patriots get Tom Brady back and are playing the Browns. Unfair.3

Pittsburgh Steelers

3-1

Last week: W, 43-14, vs. KCLast rank: 6th

Pittsburgh got right in a hammering of the Chiefs. This team has a very high ceiling.2

Minnesota Vikings

4-0

Last week: W, 24-10, vs. NYGLast rank: 3rd

Minnesota might be the best team in football, without Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson. Wait, what?1

Denver Broncos

4-0

Last week: W, 27-7, at TBLast rank: 2nd

The defense is something else. If the offense can just not lose the game, it’s all but over.
