NFL owners approve Raiders' proposed move to Las Vegas
For the third time in the last two years, an NFL franchise is changing cities – this time, though, it's not going to L.A., as the last two have.
The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas after 31 of 32 teams approved of their leaving Oakland at the NFL owners meetings Monday in Phoenix, per ESPN.

This relocation has been discussed for some time now, with the Raiders making several attempts to make it happen. They secured $750 million in public funding to put toward a new $2 billion stadium project, as well as a partnership with Bank of America to help complete the move.
The Raiders will play in Oakland this season and most likely in 2018 with the stadium not expected to be completed until 2020 at the earliest. A temporary location will need to be arranged for 2019, though.
Oakland, given the condition of the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum, wasn’t a viable long-term home for the Raiders. The city tried to keep the Raiders at home with a proposed $1.3 billion stadium that would take the place of the Coliseum, but it still wasn’t a better option than moving to Las Vegas.
The NFL has seen the Rams, Chargers and now the Raiders all relocate in the past two years. The Rams and Chargers are playing in temporary locations at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the StubHub Center, respectively, but they will move into L.A.’s new stadium when it’s expected to be completed in 2019.
