NFL Mock Draft: Week 16
The 2016 NFL season is entering the final two weeks, and the Cleveland Browns are still searching for their first win. Here is our 2017 NFL Mock Draft entering Week 16.
The Cleveland Browns lost again in Week 15, running their record to 0-14, and they are still slated to draft first in the 2017 NFL Draft. Picks No. 21 through 32 reflect the playoff seeding if the season ended today, beginning with the lowest seeds.
Here is our latest mock draft with the draft order based on record, and using strength of schedule as a tiebreaker.
1
Myles Garrett
DE, Texas A&M
The Cleveland Browns fell to the Buffalo Bills this past weekend, as they played terrible on both sides of the ball. The winless Browns will now have two more chances to avoid an 0-16 season, which is a mark set by only one other team in NFL history. With the way they have been playing lately, it looks more and more likely that they will not win a game this season.
Picking No. 1 overall is a dubious honor, but sometimes it can be a franchise-changing event. This draft class is loaded with talented players, but no one who has the kind of potential as a Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck. The Browns should be able to bolster their roster during this draft, as they have a plethora of picks, and grabbing Myles Garrett at No. 1 would be a nice starting point.
Cleveland needs help on both sides of the ball, but adding Garrett to their defensive line would give them an immediate presence in the pass rush. He is an explosive player, who may be the most NFL-ready prospect in this draft. The Browns have to start somewhere, and building around guys like Garrett and defensive back Joe Haden is a good place to start on the defensive side of the ball.

Mitch Trubisky
QB, UNC
San Francisco put forth another horrible effort this past weekend, and it looks like they are desperately fighting for the No. 1 overall pick in next April’s draft. The team did nothing on either side of the ball, as the Atlanta Falcons looked like they were playing against the air. This franchise needs help, and whether or not they move on from head coach Chip Kelly, the bottom line is they need a new quarterback.
There are a few quarterbacks that should be solid at the next level, but none who at this point who are considered franchise. Still, the University of North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky is very talented, and looked like someone who could perform well at the next level during his only season as the Tar Heelss’ starting quarterback. He has tremendous accuracy, and within the right system, could be someone that develops into a big-time player.
Colin Kaepernick is done in San Fran, and Blaine Gabbert is a backup quarterback. The team could go out and get a free agent this offseason, but there won’t be anybody worth the money, as Kirk Cousins is slated to get a big deal from the Washington Redskins. The 2018 NFL Draft has more talent at the position, but Trubisky would be a nice selection at No. 2 if the 49ers decide to go with a quarterback.

Cam Robinson
OT, Alabama
Week 15 was the final week for Gus Bradley as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the team fired him after a 2-12 start to the season. Their loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday was their ninth straight, and the organization felt it was time to make a move at the top. While the next head coach won’t be tied to quarterback Blake Bortles, the team is likely to stick with him in 2017, and they need to get him some protection in April.
The University of Alabama is loaded with talent, and plenty of their players should go in the first round next April. If the Jaguars want to bolster their offensive line, they should look to Cam Robinson, who grades out to be a dominant left tackle at the next level. Robinson has been the main man on the Crimson Tide offensive line for two years now, and would give Bortles the kind of protection he lacking on his blind side.
This team was supposed to challenge for a playoff spot in 2016, but they have been one of the bigger disappointments in football. Bortles may not be the long-term answer at the position, but if the team sticks with him one more year, they could possibly get an arm in the 2018 draft if need be. Robinson is going to be a great pro at the tackle position, and whoever is under center next season will benefit from having him leading the way on the offensive line.

Jonathan Allen
DL, Alabama
The Chicago Bears took another loss on Sunday, though the team is playing better football with Matt Barkley under center. While no word has been made as to whether the team will head into the 2017 season with him as the starter, Barkley has played surprisingly well, and will definitely be at least the team’s backup next season. The Bears could select a quarterback at the top of the first round, but passing on Jonathan Allen would be too hard at this spot.
Allen is one of the best all-around football players in the country, and some believe he just may be the best on the defensive side of the ball. The defensive lineman from the University of Alabama is as good a run stopper as he is in the pass rush, and he would be perfect for the Windy City. He plays with a tenacity that is rivaled by few in this draft, and would be a cornerstone on a pretty mediocre Bears defense.
Chicago plays in a tough division, and as long as they are playing teams like the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers twice a year, they are going to have to shore up their defensive line. Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford are two of the best in the game, but they can be stopped if you can get some pass rush. Putting Allen on the defensive line in Chicago would give them the strength they need up front to compete next season.

What a disappointing year it has been for the New York Jets, whom many believed would challenge for a playoff spot this season. However, there have been questions about the quarterback position all season long, and the veterans on both sides of the ball have not played up to their ability. There may have to be wholesale changes on this roster moving forward, and it remains to be seen whether or not they will retain head coach Todd Bowles.
The defense was supposed to lead the way for the Jets this season, as veterans like David Harris and Darrelle Revis dotted the starting lineup. Well, Revis has looked very old, and despite solid play, Harris is nearing the end of his career as well. They need to inject some new blood into the unit, and bringing on someone like Jabrill Peppers will do just that.
Peppers has already declared for the NFL Draft, and it would be something if he could head home to New Jersey. The East Orange native won the Paul Hornung Award as the Most Versatile Player in college football, and the Jets need a player that can fill a few roles. He can play linebacker, safety and be present in the return game, which would make him a certain fan favorite inside MetLife Stadium.

WR, Clemson
The Tennessee Titans have been one of the feel good stories of the NFL season, as they currently sit tied atop the AFC South with the Houston Texans. This is the latest they have at least shared the lead in a division since 2008, and their quarterback is blossoming into one of the better signal-callers in the conference. It is because of their trade before last year’s draft that they will be picking so high, and it could mean that the Titans will be a force to be reckoned with for a long time coming.
Marcus Mariota has looked very good in his sophomore season, leading the Titans to an 8-6 record. He has shown the ability to win big games on the road, and has produced some nice statistics despite not having a true WR1 on the roster. He is only going to get better, and if the Titans can add a wide receiver in this draft, they will be loaded on offense in 2017.
Mike Williams is one of the better wide receiver prospects we have seen in a long time, and the fact that a possible division winner may get him makes the Titans trade last season look like a stroke of genius. The speedy wideout from Clemson can do it all on the outside, and has the mentality to go across the middle. He is an incredible prospect, and he will get to showcase those skills once again in the College Football Playoff in a few weeks.

With every Philadelphia Eagles loss, the Cleveland Browns get closer to drafting two players in the first ten picks of next April’s Draft. The Browns will likely go defense at No. 1, as players like Myles Garrett and Jonathan Allen may be too good to pass up. After watching Robert Griffin III this past weekend, there is a serious need to upgrade the quarterback position, and they may just do it at No. 7.
While Mitch Trubisky is likely to be the first quarterback off of the board on draft day, expect DeShone Kizer to hear his name shortly after if the Browns continue to inch up the draft board. Kizer has already declared for the NFL Draft, and most experts say he has the best physical attributes of all the quarterbacks in this draft.
Cleveland may decide to roll with Cody Kessler next season, though Hue Jackson and the front office may decide to take a swing and bring in someone like Tony Romo if available. Whatever happens, they need to upgrade the position, and drafting a player like Kizer would give them the franchise quarterback they need down the road. Only time will tell how he will produce in the pro game, but his physical talent cannot be overlooked by a team with a need at the position.

Marlon Humphrey
CB, Alabama
The San Diego Chargers tried to play spoiler on Sunday, as they gave the Oakland Raiders everything they could handle in the Raiders’ playoff-clinching game. Philip Rivers continues to show that he can produce at a high level, and despite Melvin Gordon being injured for the game, he definitely has established himself as the team’s future at running back. San Diego needs some help on the defensive side of the ball, more specifically in the secondary.
There are a plethora of good defensive back products in this draft, but Marlon Humphrey of Alabama may be the best cornerback. Humphrey is the son of a former NFL running back, and he definitely plays with his heart on his sleeve. He has been the best cornerback in the best conference in football during his time with the Crimson Tide, and would step right into the starting lineup in San Diego.
San Diego is much better than their record would indicate this season, and they should be back in the hunt for a division championship in 2017. They have suffered many injuries on both sides of the ball, so while they are drafting really high next April, it is not like they need to fill a ton of holes on the roster. Humphrey would definitely fill a weak spot on the roster, and the Chargers need to pounce if he is available.

John Ross
WR, Washington
Arizona looks old on offense, mostly because their quarterback is inching near 40 years old. However, they suffered a huge loss last week, as their star wide receiver was released due to a DUI arrest. Michael Floyd has since signed with the New England Patriots, but his absence means that the Cardinals need to bolster their wide receiver corps next April.
John Ross of the Washington Huskies is an incredible wide receiver prospect, and if Mike Williams was not in this draft, he would be the first player at his position off the board. He does a nice job of going deep, and has had the luxury of playing with one of the better quarterbacks in college football. Palmer needs weapons, and Ross is the kind of first-round talent that can replace Floyd as soon as next season.
The team needs to find a replacement for Palmer, as he probably does not have many good years left. While they could certainly draft a player like Deshaun Watson here, he will likely be available to them in the second round if they want to go that route. The 2018 NFL Draft class is much deeper at the position, so if the Cardinals can hang with Palmer for one more year, they may be better off in the long run.

Reuben Foster
LB, Alabama
The Cincinnati Bengals have been a playoff team for the past few years, though the 2016 season has not been kind to them. Quarterback Andy Dalton has played well, but injuries to his weapons have proved to be costly. The team has been without star wide receiver A.J. Green for some time now, and the defense just does not have enough talent to stop people. What head coach Marvin Lewis needs is some help at the linebacker position, and this draft is loaded with talent.
Reuben Foster from Alabama is a prototypical linebacker, and he has the size and speed to be a dominant force in the NFL. He plays well from sideline to sideline, and he is just as good against the run as he is in the pass rush. His athleticism is what separates him from his peers in this draft, and he would be perfect for a Marvin Lewis defense.
The AFC North is full of talent, as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are both playoff-caliber teams. While the Cleveland Browns are a joke, the Bengals need to do all they can this coming offseason to make sure they are challenging for a divisional title once again in 2017. Adding a player like Foster to a group that already includes Vontaze Burfict and Rey Maualuga will make the Bengals defense tough to move the ball on next season.

In a lost season, the Carolina Panthers saw some signs of life on Monday Night Football, as they ruined the Washington Redskins’ chances at a playoff berth. Cam Newton played very well in the passing game, and running back Jonathan Stewart ran the ball hard against a soft Washington defensive front. He still has the ability to make plays with the ball, but his time as a feature back has to be coming to an end.
Enter Leonard Fournette, who has decided that he will skip LSU’s bowl game to get ready for the NFL Draft. While that is certainly a debatable decision, the Panthers will be happy he did so if they can grab him in next April’s draft. Fournette is about as good a running back prospect as there has been in the past few years, and he would do a lot to take some of the pressure off of Newton next season.
This Panthers team is one year removed from playing in the Super Bowl, and despite their sorry record in 2016, they are actually loaded with talent. Newton is still one of the better signal-callers in the game, and Kelvin Benjamin appears healthy after returning from a torn ACL this past season. Adding Fournette to that group would give the Panthers some of the best young talent at those three positions in the NFC.

Quincy Wilson
CB, Florida
So much for Drew Brees starting to decline with age. The ageless wonder absolutely picked apart the No. 1 ranked pass defense in the league this past weekend, throwing for four touchdowns in a 48-41 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The problem for Brees is that his team is allergic to playing defense, which is something they need to address come draft time in 2017.
New Orleans can throw against anybody in the league, but the problem is, anybody in the league can throw against them. The Saints have a sorry collection of players in the secondary, but luckily for them, this draft has a ton of talent at that position. The University of Florida has two of the better cornerbacks in college football, and one of them could be selected in this spot.
Quincy Wilson has teamed with Teez Tabor to terrorize quarterbacks in the SEC, and both could hear their names called in the first round next April. Wilson is one of the better ball-hawking corners we have seen in a while, and he has the size and speed to dominate at the next level. Offenses have shied away from him at the college level, and in time, offenses in the NFL may just do the same.

The Buffalo Bills looked pretty good this past Sunday, as they throttled the Cleveland Browns at home. The issue for the team has been inconsistency this season, and it is likely that the organization is going to part ways with head coach Rex Ryan once the regular season ends. The Bills need help all over the roster, but adding a quality safety may be at the top of the list.
LSU has an incredible safety in Jamal Adams, who may very well go even higher in next April’s draft. He is of the same mold as former LSU Tiger Tyrann Mathieu, and he just may have the same impact at the next level as the Honey Badger has had. The Bills need to establish an identity on defense, and Adams would be a nice piece to that puzzle given the fact he plays with the kind of passion that would make him a favorite to the fans in Buffalo.
Ryan has long been a defensive-minded coach, but that really has not translated in Buffalo. Bringing in his brother Rob to run the defense did little to help a unit that continues to show weaknesses all over the unit. A safety will bring stability to the secondary, and Adams is extremely talented, but this Bills team is not going to get better overnight.

Dalvin Cook
RB, Florida State
One of the more surprising victories of this past weekend was the Indianapolis Colts throttling the Vikings on the road, as Andrew Luck shredded a very good Vikings defense. Luck has been under fire this season due to a sorry offensive line, that has hung him out to dry on a weekly basis. He is an incredible talent at the quarterback position, but he needs help if he is going to bring the Colts back to the top of the AFC South.
While Frank Gore is doing a nice job climbing the all-time lists as far as running backs go, he has not been a very effective runner this season. He has yet to crack the 100-yard barrier, and his days as a feature back are certainly numbered. Next season, the team needs to bring in some youth at the position, and Florida State’s Dalvin Cook may be the answer.
Cook has had a record-setting career at Florida State, and has the size and speed to be an effective runner at the next level. The Colts can certainly hang on to Gore in a supplementary capacity next season, but it is time to turn the page. Cook would be a solid addition in the run and pass game, and would give Luck some added security out of the backfield.

Teez Tabor
CB, Florida
The Philadelphia Eagles made a nice pick in last April’s draft, as they selected Carson Wentz with the No. 2 overall pick. While Wentz has come back down to earth after a stellar start to the season, he is definitely a franchise quarterback, and should continue to get better. While he does need some weapons on the outside, the main issue in Philadelphia has been the play of their defense, with their secondary being the weakest link of the unit.
The 2017 NFL Draft is full of good defensive backs, and two of them happen to be Florida Gators. While we fully expect Quincy Wilson to be the second cornerback off the board next April, his teammate, Teez Tabor, should not be far behind. Tabor was so dominant at Florida that teams just stopped throwing his way, which was a testament to his talent at the position.
Playing cornerback in the NFL is one of the harder positions in the game, and it requires speed and size to be effective. The Eagles need someone who is going to come in and lead the unit, and Tabor has not only the physical ability, but he has the swagger to not be overwhelmed at the next level. The NFC East is loaded with talent at the quarterback position, so bolstering the cornerback spot will definitely be a priority for Philly come April.

Malik McDowell
DL, Michigan State
The Washington Redskins blew a golden opportunity on Monday night, as they let the Carolina Panthers come into FedEx Field and ruin their playoff chances. While quarterback Kirk Cousins continues to establish himself as a franchise player, the defense has been weak all season long. The defensive front gets pushed around on a weekly basis, and they need to utilize their first round draft pick to solidify their front.
On Monday night, a pretty old Jonathan Stewart ran all over the Redskins, as they just could not get any push against the Panthers offensive line. There are some solid defensive linemen in this draft, and while Jonathan Allen is guaranteed to be gone at this spot, Malik McDowell is a great second option. He has been a dominant player for the Michigan State Spartans, and appears ready to declare for the NFL Draft.
The best part about McDowell is he can play all over the defensive line, as he has the speed to get around the edge and rush the passer. He was used all over the line during his time with the Spartans, though he should stay in the middle at the next level. Washington need players who are going to get in there and stuff the run, and McDowell will do just that in the NFL.

Derek Barnett
DE, Tennessee
Baltimore is synonymous with defense, as the organization has produced some of the best talent on that side of the ball in recent years. Players like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs have been terrorizing the opposition for nearly two decades, but only an aging Suggs remains from that group. The Ravens need to bolster their defense with their first round pick in 2017, and Tennessee’s Derek Barnett is one of the more exciting defensive prospects in this draft.
As far as explosiveness goes, there are few in this draft who can hold a candle to Barnett. He has the uncanny ability to get after the quarterback, as he possesses the size and speed to get around the edge. The Ravens need that kind of player on the roster, and if Barnett is available, they should make a play for him.
The Ravens are still a very talented team, and their quarterback is one of the better signal-callers in football. The AFC North is a pretty tough division, as only the Cleveland Browns are a team that is not playoff-caliber. Baltimore needs to continue to add pieces to their defenses if they wish to contend with the likes of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, so look for them to go that route in April.

Sidney Jones
CB, Washington
The Tennessee Titans need a star wide receiver on their team, and they will likely pick one with the draft pick they got from the Los Angeles Rams before last year’s draft. With their second pick in round one, they should look to improve in the secondary, as it has been a weak spot for some time now. While Jason McCourty is a solid player at the cornerback position, they need someone on the other side, and this draft has a bunch of talented players at the position.
Washington has one of the better cornerbacks in the league, as Sidney Jones is a shutdown guy who can take away half of the field. Playing in a very tough Pac-12 this season, Jones always covered the opponent’s number one wide receiver, and he won the battle nine times out of ten. He has the size and speed to play at the next level, and would instantly improve a Titans unit that has to deal with some tough quarterbacks every week in the AFC South.
Tennessee is not far off from being a legitimate contender in the AFC, and if they can beat the Texans at the end of the season, they could actually win their division this year. Marcus Mariota has become a star, and their two-headed monster of Derrick Henry and DeMarco Murray in the backfield is arguably the best in the business. If they improve their defensive secondary next April, this team is going to be good for a very long time.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been one of the hottest teams in football as of late, as 2015 No.1 overall pick Jameis Winston has become a leader of the young group. Despite a tough loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, this organization is definitely trending upward, and they should be a contender in the NFC for years to come. While they have some nice pieces on the offensive side of the ball, they need help in the defensive secondary, specifically at the safety position.
While a lot of the talk in this draft has been around guys like Jabrill Peppers and Jamal Adams when it comes to the safety position, there is one guy who plays in the Pac-12 that should get some consideration. Marcus Williams of Utah is an incredible player at the position, and was recently named first-team All Pac-12. He has the speed and size to play at the next level, and his ability to come up and make hits is what sets him apart from the competition.
Utah had one of the better defenses in college football for most of the season, as Williams and nose guard Lowell Lotulelei really led the way. The Pac-12 was a pretty tough conference this season, and Williams had to face some tough quarterbacks each week. He is going to be a good pro, and while most do not grade him in the first round, I feel he would be a great pick for the Bucs this late in round one.

D'Onta Foreman
RB, Texas
Boasting one of the better defenses in the league, the Denver Broncos have kept themselves in the playoff hunt this season despite some huge inadequacies on offense. They were playing with a first-year starter under center, and their running back was hurt early in the season. This past weekend, the Broncos welcomed the Patriots to town, and while their defense was incredible, the offense just could not move the ball.
Incredibly, it has not been quarterback Trevor Siemian’s fault that the offense has been so bad. He has done a nice job as of late, but the team just has no run game to speak of. Losing C.J. Anderson early in the year has hurt, and the team just may have to look to the draft to pick up some depth at the position.
While Dalvin Cook and Leonard Fournette are the cream of the crop at the position in this draft, a player like D’Onta Foreman will be a solid back at the next level. Foreman is a big, bruising running back for the University of Texas, and he has the speed to break off big ones when he gets loose. The Broncos did draft Devontae Booker in the fourth round last year, but Foreman may be too good to pass up in 2017.

After starting off the season very slow, the Green Bay Packers are back, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers is playing MVP-type football. With a plethora of options on the outside, Rodgers has overcome the fact that the Packers have no running game, throwing for over 30 touchdowns against only seven interceptions this season. While the Packers definitely need a running back, they can grab a guy like Jeremy McNichols from Boise State in round two, and should look to bolster their offensive line in round one.
Rodgers has taken his fair share of hits this season, and at 33-years old, he needs to be protected better. He has shown that he is still arguably the best quarterback in the league, so adding to the offensive line is going to be crucial next April. Indiana’s Dan Feeney is the best offensive guard in this draft, and that is a position the Packers need help.
The best part about Feeney is how athletic he is for someone his size, as he has tremendous feet at the position. He is also one of the strongest men in college football, and has the upper body strength to move defenders with ease. He is used to playing in the cold in Indiana, so heading to Wisconsin for his pro career is not going to be an issue.

What a nice surprise the Miami Dolphins have been, as first year head coach Adam Gase may be in line for NFL Coach of the Year honors. Gase has taken a very mediocre Dolphins team and turned them into a Wild Card team, thanks to solid play on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was playing the best football of his career, and after hurting his knee two weeks ago, backup Matt Moore stepped in and continued the Dolphins winning ways.
Miami has won eight of their last nine games, and currently find themselves behind only the New England Patriots in the AFC East. Running back Jay Ajayi has put together a solid season, and they are finally getting good play out of their wide receivers. One area of need is up front on the defensive line, where they need some help on the outside.
Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake are tough to block on the left side of the defensive line, but the team could stand to add another pass rusher on the right. Taco Charlton from Michigan really made a name for himself during the Ohio State game, and has the skill set to be a good pro. He is an incredible athlete, and would fit right in with the roster and coaching staff down in South Beach.

One year removed from having one of the worst defensives in the league, the New York Giants are riding their defense to a possible playoff berth. If the Giants can beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, they will have clinched a playoff spot, marking an incredible comeback from last season. The team is loaded with playmakers on both sides of the ball, but they could use some help at the linebacker position.
University of Alabama linebacker Tim Williams is an incredible talent at the position, possessing the motor to get all over the field. He is good against the run, and the pass, and has the football I.Q. to be a great player at the next level. He has made some questionable decisions off the field during his time with the Crimson Tide, but he appears to have put that behind him.
The Giants are loaded up front, as Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul are great at getting after the quarterback. While there may not be enough money to pay both of them next season, the Giants should still be able to have a quality defense without JPP. If they cannot re-sign him, adding a linebacker like Williams who can get after the quarterback will be key.

It has been a seesaw battle with the Oakland Raiders for first place in the AFC West for the Kansas City Chiefs, who now find themselves as a Wild Card team after their Week 15 loss. The Chiefs are one of the more well-rounded teams in football, though they are getting horrible play from their quarterback as of late. There is no answer to the Alex Smith problem in this draft for next year, but they may be able to get a guy later in the draft to fill the role down the road.
If the Chiefs are smart, they will look to add to their already stellar defense in April, specifically at the linebacker position. Derrick Johnson is getting up there in age, and it is time to consider life without him very soon. Bringing in a young guy to play alongside of him is going to be key, as the prospect will gain such valuable knowledge by playing next to a legend.
Zach Cunningham of Vanderbilt is an intriguing player, as he has the ability to do everything from the linebacker position. He is so long, and with his speed and strength, he is going to be a difference maker on the inside at the next level. Kansas City is looking for their next star at the position after Johnson retires, and Cunningham could be just what the organization is looking for.

The Houston Texans spent $72 million to bring in Brock Osweiler to be their quarterback of the future this past offseason, but it appears that will only last 14 games. The team made the switch to Tom Savage during their victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past weekend, and Savage proceeded to lead them back from a 14-0 deficit. With the win, the Texans stay in first place in the AFC South, and Savage will now be the starter for the foreseeable future.
Despite losing J.J. Watt this season, the Texans defense has played very well. The front has been led by Jadeveon Clowney, and Brian Cushing has done a nice job as the leader of the linebacking corps. The secondary has also played better as of late, but that is an area that could use some depth when the team selects in the first round next April.
Jonathan Joseph is getting up there in age, and the team needs to make sure there is some talent to go along with Kareem Jackson and Kevin Johnson. Adding a player like Gareon Conley of Ohio State would not only give them a possible starter at the position, but at worst, a guy who can play in the nickel. Houston has a ton of talented players on their roster, and they should continue to be a playoff team.

Despite their bad loss to the New York Giants this past Sunday, the Detroit Lions have had quite a season. They have come back from a bunch of losses during the season, and are currently in first place in the NFC North. They will have to stave off a red-hot Green Bay Packers team the rest of the way, and they just may have enough firepower to do so.
One area they should look to improve on in next year’s draft is on the edge, as they could use a player who can get after the quarterback with some consistency. They have some solid talent up the middle on their defensive front, so drafting a player that can get after the likes of Aaron Rodgers is going to make them a contender in the division yearly. Detroit is a blue-collar town, and a player like Missouri’s Charles Harris would fit right in with his work ethic and will to succeed.
Harris has already declared for the NFL Draft, and his skill set is going to play perfectly at the next level. He can rush with his hand on the ground, can go inside or out, and has the brute strength to move offensive lineman. His speed really sets him apart from the other players at his position in this draft, and while he may be drafted earlier, the Lions would get a steal picking him near the bottom of the first round.

The Atlanta Falcons are so fun to watch on offense, as they have some of the best playmakers in the game on that side of the ball. Quarterback Matt Ryan is having an MVP-type season, and the two-headed monster of Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman at the running back position is deadly for defenses to protect against. Add to the fact that a healthy Julio Jones is better than every wide receiver in the game, and the Falcons could make a serious run this season.
While they are certain to be drafting later in round one come April, the position where they need the most help should have some first round talent remaining when their turn comes up. For Falcons fans, tune in to the Rose Bowl game, as your next first round draft pick may be playing in that game. USC’s Adoree’ Jackson is one of the more exciting players in college football, and he would be a perfect fit for the Atlanta Falcons.
Jackson can really do it all, and has even spent some time on offense during his time with the Trojans. While he has not officially declared for the draft, one look at his last home game was a sure sign that he is leaving. He is the most prolific return man in USC history, and he is just as good a cornerback as he is a return man. Now that is saying something.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shaken off a rough start to the season to be right in the thick of things in the AFC, and some believe they will challenge the New England Patriots for the AFC Championship in 2016. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and his running back, Le’Veon Bell, is one of the better talents we have seen in recent years. Not to mention that they have the best wide receiver in the AFC, the Steelers are in prime position to make a deep run this January.
Next April, Pittsburgh is sure to be drafting near the bottom of the first round, but that does not mean they can’t add to their already impressive roster. The UCLA Bruins have a tremendous defensive end that would be perfect for the Steelers if they come calling in the first round. Takkarist McKinley is a rare blend of size and speed, and he has Pittsburgh Steeler written all over him.
McKinley is a special player because of all the things he can do to disrupt an offense. He is an aggressive tackler, who has a nose for getting after the ball carrier. However, he is also keen at getting after the quarterback, which would make him a fear defender in a very defensive heavy AFC North. The Steelers are going to go defense in round one, and McKinley just may be available late.

Like in previous years, the Seattle Seahawks have a dominant defense, and their star quarterback is making enough plays to win ballgames. The team took a huge hit when they lost Earl Thomas for the season, and now the veteran safety is contemplating retirement. While they could certainly use some depth in the defensive backfield, I think they will try and get someone to protect their prized asset, Russell Wilson.
Playing in Seattle is cold business, but Wisconsin’s Ryan Ramczyk is used to frigid temperature. Since arriving on campus for the Badgers, Ramczyk has been one of the better lineman in the Big Ten, and this past season, established himself as one of the best offensive tackles in college football. He would be a perfect fit for a Seahawks team that has shown some weakness on the offensive line this season.
The team paid big money to keep Wilson in Seattle, and protecting him is priority No. 1. They do need help at the running back position, and adding a cornerback is also a need. However, those two spots can certainly be addressed later on, and a player like Ramczyk will be took good to pass up this late in round one.

With their victory against the San Diego Chargers this past weekend, the Oakland Raiders clinched the AFC Playoffs for the first time since 2002. It was an incredible win for the Raiders and their fan base, who have had to deal with so many years of bad football. This Raiders team is legit, and they should be a playoff team for the foreseeable future.
Quarterback Derek Carr is an MVP candidate this season, and they are finally getting some production out of Latavius Murray. The offense is pretty much loaded, as the team went out and spent a ton of money to bolster their offensive line. One area where they need help is in the secondary, where they just allow too many big plays.
David Amerson had a wonderful season in 2015, and they added Sean Smith in the offseason. However, both players have been burnt on numerous occasions this season, and the team needs to add depth to the cornerback position. Iowa’s Desmond King is arguably the most NFL-ready of all the corners in this draft, and his skills set and attitude would play perfectly in the Black Hole next season. Look for Oakland to continue to stockpile young talent, and they turn around a once proud franchise.

Another season, another AFC East Championship, as the New England Patriots won their eighth straight division crown this past weekend. Quarterback Tom Brady went into Denver and beat a very tough Broncos defense, though he struggled once again in the Mile High city. New England is going to be there at the end this season, as they are currently the favorite to win the Super Bowl in February.
New England has done a nice job with their running game in 2016, as the combination of Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount have taken some of the pressure off of Brady and the passing game. However, they need to add some more talent to the group, and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey would be a perfect fit in New England. He has a unique skill set at the running back position, and could be used all over the field in Josh McDaniel’s offense.
McCaffrey, like Leonard Fournette, has made the decision to skip his bowl game to focus on the NFL Draft. That means that whatever tape the scouts have on him is all they are going to get, and it is some pretty good tape. He is going to be a solid pro, and the Patriots need more playmakers on offense, so this could be a wonderful match.

DeMarcus Walker
DE, Florida State
How about them Cowboys? With all the talk of the team possibly going back to Tony Romo next week, all Dak Prescott did was go 32-for-36 passing against a tough Tampa Bay defense. He has been an incredible story this season, as the Cowboys hit the lotto with their fourth-round pick last April. In the first round, the team selected Ezekiel Elliott, giving them two Rookie of the Year candidates in one draft class.
In 2017, expect the Cowboys to go defense in the first round, as their offense appears set for the foreseeable future. One area where they need help is on the edge, as they are going to have to continue to improve on getting after the quarterback. They face quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins, Eli Manning and Carson Wentz six times a year, so bolstering their pass rush is a priority.
Florida State’s DeMarcus Walker has been a sack master in the college football game for the past two seasons, as he has had a remarkable 2016 season after recording double-digit sacks in 2015. Walker is going to be a fantastic pro, and while he may be gone when the Cowboys draft in the first round, he would be a solid fit for the Dallas defense going forward. He could have been a first rounder after last season, but going back to school was definitely worth it, as he will enter his rookie season in the NFL with a ton of experience.
