New York Jets: Joe Namath Calls Out Geno Smith

The New York Jets were able to win their second game of the season, but that didn’t stop Joe Namath from taking to Twitter.

During the New York Jets’ win against the Baltimore Ravens, quarterback Geno Smith had to leave early due to a knee injury. After being hit awkwardly, Smith would get attention on the sideline on his knee prior to going to the locker room.

Smith was not able to come back in the game, and that led to former Jets quarterback Joe Namath to call him out on Twitter.

These were certainly some tough words from Namath about Smith when he likely didn’t know about the severity of the injury. Smith did come back out of the locker room in street clothes, and that seems to be what Namath was using to say he wasn’t really hurt.

According to ESPN, Smith begged to go back into the game but was held out by the doctors. Smith is set to undergo an MRI on Monday. While the injury isn’t expected to be serious, the Jets were likely playing it careful with Smith.

Following the tough comments from Namath on Twitter, Smith did respond, but he kept it clean.

It would have been very easy for Smith to bash Namath on Twitter, but he did a good job taking the high road. Now, the Jets will have to make some tough decisions moving forward about their quarterback situation.

Depending on the health of Smith, he very well could be under center on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. If Smith is unable to play, the Jets will fall back on Ryan Fitzpatrick.
