New York Giants Next Head Coach Odds: Chris Shula Favored; Freeman Rises

New York is looking toward the future.

The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll after notching a 2-8 record over the first two months of the season. They are also eliminated from playoff contention, as they continue to usher in the Jaxson Dart era.

So, who will coach Dart in NYC next season?

Here are the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Dec. 18.

Here's what to know about the Giants' coaching oddsboard:

The Favorite: Previously, former Packers and Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was favored to make his return to the sidelines for one of his former NFC East rivals. However, McCarthy has slipped to fifth on the board, as Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula is now the favorite. Shula, 39, is in his second season overseeing the Los Angeles defense. Last season, L.A. finished the year with the 26th-ranked total defense, and this year, the Rams have the league's 13th-best defense.

Ones to Watch: Just over a month ago, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, 39, was at +5000 on this board. Now, he's shifted to +1200. Despite missing the College Football Playoff this season, Notre Dame finished 10-2 on the year and made it to the national title game in 2024-25. Just below Freeman on the board is former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. Gruden, 62, won Super Bowl XXXVII with the Bucs, but hasn't coached since resigning during the 2021 season in his second stint as coach of the Raiders. Lastly, another name that keeps popping up is that of Bill Belichick, the man who helped lead the Patriots to six Super Bowl wins from 2000 to 2023, winning NFL Coach of the Year three times in that span. Last season was his first in the collegiate ranks, as he led North Carolina to a 4-8 record.
