New York Giants: Eli Manning Has Message For Odell Beckham Jr.
The New York Giants will be playing the Washington Redskins in Week 3. That means that highly anticipated matchup of Odell Beckham Jr. and Josh Norman.
A real low point in the season for the New York Giants in 2015 were the actions of Odell Beckham Jr. While going against Josh Norman, the two got into a few scuffles, and it ended up getting so bad that Beckham took a real cheap shot on Norman after a play.
For two of the best players at their respective positions, this was ugly to watch. You would hope after nearly a year to reflect on their actions, both players will keep it clean in Week 3. However, quarterback Eli Manning did have some advice for Beckham.
“Just go play football,” Manning said when asked what suggestions he would have for Beckham this week to George Willis of the New York Post. “That’s what the whole team is doing. We’ve got a job to do and everybody is trying to do their assignment and do their job at a high level. We’ve all got to play at a high level and worry about just doing our job.”
“He wants to keep this about football,” Manning said of Beckham, “about doing our jobs. I know he wants to get in the end zone. He wants to score and be a big part of the offense. He played well last week and I think he’ll play well again this week.”
Beckham simply can’t let Norman get under his skin like he did last season, or it could cost the team dearly. Even though the Giants are 2-0, Week 3 is an opportunity to bury the Redskins in the division. If the Redskins lose, a 0-3 start to the season, that would likely knock them out of the playoff hunt early.
Finally, Week 3 will hopefully not have any of the ridiculous shenanigans that we saw last season. A matchup between Norman and Beckham can be a joy to watch, but we have also seen how ugly it can get.
