Minnesota Vikings elevate QB Taylor Heinicke to the main roster
Taylor Heinicke has been cleared from his injury and the Minnesota Vikings have added him to the team’s active 53-man roster for the 2016 NFL season.
Over the course of his practices and preseason action, The Minnesota Vikings and their fans have been impressed with the play of quarterback Taylor Heinicke. He has developed well over the years and could have a big role in the future of the franchise.
However, that role was put on hold this season when the young man suffered an injury during the offseason that put him on the non-football injury list. After the window to be on that list expired, the team had a new deadline, November 9th, to either add him to the active roster or release him.
The Minnesota Vikings announced today that they have made that decision, adding Taylor Heinicke to the 53-man roster. He will join Sam Bradford and Shaun Hill as the quarterbacks on the team’s roster.
More from The Viking Age
The announcement was made on the Vikings official website, where they offered this statement:
“The Vikings on Tuesday announced they have moved quarterback Taylor Heinicke off the non-football injury list to the active roster.”
They also provided a bit of information on the quarterback for reference.
“Heinicke joined the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He spent all of last season on the active roster but did not play in a regular-season game. Heinicke suffered a freak off-the-field injury in the time between the Vikings mandatory minicamp and training camp, arriving at Mankato in a walking boot.”
Welcome back to the Minnesota Vikings, Taylor Heinicke. It’s good to know that his injury this offseason hasn’t had any negative impact on the team’s view of the young man. Hopefully, he can still be a big part of the franchise in the future.
