Michael Floyd could interest desperate Philadelphia Eagles

Could the Philadelphia Eagles have interest in wideout Michael Floyd?

Talented wideout Michael Floyd has been released by the Arizona Cardinals after being arrested and charged with two counts of DUI. The fifth-year pro was reportedly found unconscious while behind the wheel of his running vehicle in Scottsdale, Arizona Monday morning.

Despite this recent mishap, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Philadelphia Eagles chose to pursue the troubled receiver.

Arguably the Eagles’ biggest weakness this season has been its receiving corps. Aside from Jordan Matthews, the Eagles’ best wideouts are Nelson Agholor, Dorial Green-Beckham and two undrafted rookies. Not exactly a recipe for success.

Over the last five seasons, Floyd has caught 242 balls for 3,739 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Cardinals. Floyd’s natural ability to make plays is rare and is a hot commodity in today’s pass-heavy league.

But of course, Floyd’s legal issues are concerning, and this isn’t the first time he’s been in legal trouble. Floyd had several alcohol-related incidents during his college career at Notre Dame. In 2011, Floyd was cited for driving while intoxicated, resulting in an indefinite suspension from Notre Dame’s football team. However, his suspension was lifted just before the start of the season.

Floyd was also cited for underage consumption in 2009 and 2010.

The Eagles may be desperate for a skilled wide receiver, but Floyd’s off-field issues are too unsettling to warrant bringing him to Philadelphia. The Eagles would be better suited looking to add a receiver via free agency or the 2017 NFL Draft, which will be held in the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since 1961.
