Miami Dolphins Have to Stick With Ryan Tannehill

Last year the Miami Dolphins signed Ryan Tannehill to a contract extension through 2020. This season the Dolphins got off to a rough start causing people to question this decision.

Ryan Tannehill is the Dolphins franchise quarterback no matter how he plays. In 2015, the Dolphins signed him to a $96 million dollar contract extension with $45 million guaranteed. The guaranteed money makes it nearly impossible to trade him.

The Dolphins currently have three wins and four losses. This is not where the Dolphins hoped they would be at the half way point of the season. Tannehill has a 48.4 quarterback rating at this point in the season. Placing him at 29th in the NFL.

By giving him that contract extension, the Dolphins believe Tannehill is their franchise quarterback. They believed in him in 2015 and need to continue to believe in him.

This season Tannehill has 1,728 yards and seven touchdowns. In their previous two games, he has shown signs of improving. Against Pittsburgh he went 24-of-32 for 253 yards gaining a quarterback rating of 74.6. He followed that up going 15-of-25 for 204 yards and a touchdown against the Bills.

Up next he is facing the New York Jets, the Dolphins division rival. They are half a game ahead of the Jets and need to win. Sitting in third place in the NFC East is not where the Dolphins thought they would be at this point. Tannehill needs to play better to get his team to a winning record.

There are no other options for the Dolphins. Tannehill is their guy. Good thing he likes playing against top teams as tends to beat them. He just needs to work through his problems.

Tannehill has the potential of being a good quarterback. He has been consistent in his years with the Dolphins. This year, yes he is struggling but it doesn’t mean that they need someone else.

The Dolphins running game has stepped up in the past few weeks. With a running game the pressure is taken off of Tannehill. He has looked uncomfortable in the pocket but with the emergence of the running game this will change.

The Dolphins will look to turn things around in the second half of the season. With Tannehill at the helm they have the potential of winning more games. This team has offensive weapons that need to be utilized. The team needs to rally around Tannehill and they will find ways to win.
