Melvin Gordon Injury Update: Chargers RB Carted Off vs Panthers
San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon was carted off the field with a leg injury in Week 14.
After a disappointing rookie season, San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has been an absolute revelation in the 2016 season. His second year has made him look like a star and true building block for the offense far more often than not. However, the Chargers might have to finish up the rest of the season without their newfound star running back.
Playing the Carolina Panthers in NFL Week 14 on the road, quarterback Philip Rivers dropped back to pass and Gordon went out into the middle of the field for a short curl route. However, Rivers was forced to go on the move and took off.
In doing so, Rivers looked like he might have gotten stripped (it was actually an incomplete pass). With the ball on the turf in the middle of the field, the second-year running back went after the ball on the ground. But as he made the effort and dove, Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis also dove behind him.
What then happened was a pretty nasty looking scene as Gordon’s leg got rolled up in the pile. As everyone else emerged, he stayed down in obvious pain. To make matters look worse, they had to bring out the cart to get the running back off of the field:
There’s no word as to the extent of the injury, but getting carted off is never a good sign.
Though the Chargers don’t need Melvin Gordon for a playoff push or anything. you still hate to see this. The young back out of Wisconsin was just getting his legs beneath him this season and having a great year. It’s terrible to see him go out like that late in the season. Let’s hope it’s nothing too serious, though. We will keep you updated as information becomes available.
