Matt Derrick checks in on busy day - Locked on Chiefs

More Money

On Wednesday Justin Houston restructured his contract and was abel give ether Chiefs $6M in cap relief. While that is welcome news, speculation is rampant on how and when John Dorsey and the Kansas City leadership will use that money to accomplish a personnel move. Could it be a trade? Could they be trying to extend someone? We’ll have to wait and see.

Shock to the System

Russell was with the team just five months. A move on such a young player taken with a valuable pick is rare in the NFL to say the least. While its effect won’t be seen on the field, the personnel team needs to figure out what how they went wrong in their draft prospect evaluation.

Guard Duty

The team got two doses of bad news Wednesday. Laurant Duvernay-Tardif come away from the Chargers game with a high ankle sprain and Parker Ehinger sustained an apparent concussion in Wednesday’s practice. The loss of both starting guards highlights the offseason departure of left guard Jeff Allen, who will be playing for Houston on Sunday.

Backups Zach Fulton and Jah Reid could be pressed into starting Sunday in Houston. If either injury is thought to be long-term, the Chiefs may need to elevate a player from the practice squad or make a signing.
