Marcus Peters tells Chargers to 'Take that sh-t back to San Diego' (Video)

Marcus Peters had some choice words for the San Diego Chargers after his Kansas City Chiefs won in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 1.

The Chiefs rallied from 21-3 down to eventually beat their AFC West rivals 33-27 in OT. As ecstatic and relieved KC players and coaches went down the tunnel, Peters was caught offering this expletive-laden retort to the fallen Chargers.

The incident capped a highly controversial first week of the 2016 NFL season for Peters. He attracted potential controversy during the playing of the American national anthem.

The second-year cornerback appeared to raise a fist during the anthem, in a manner some thought was akin to a Black Power salute. A photo of Peters’ actions was relayed by Carolyn Wysinger:

The gesture, intended or not, simply fuelled the debate about Colin Kaepernick’s actions during preseason with the San Francisco 49ers. He’d opted to remain seated during the anthem as a mark of protest against the treatment of minorities.

Whether Peters was showing solidarity for that view is not known. But his gesture may invoke memories of Tommie Smith’s salute at the 1968 Olympics.

Peters may have kept that debate rolling, but he could fall foul of the league’s offices for his profanity post-game.

Either way, it’s a contentious start to his second season for the gifted cornerback who picked off eight passes in 2015 en route to wining Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Peters was no stranger to fractious moments during his collegiate days. He was dismissed from the University of Washington after run-ins with coach Chris Petersen, something expected to harm his draft stock.

Peters put those issues behind him and used his immense talent to prove the doubters wrong. But he certainly isn’t shying away from controversy so far this season.
