Marcus Mariota: I can't watch myself in commercials

One of the benefits of winning the Heisman Trophy and being selected with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft is it provides plenty of endorsement opportunities.

One of the drawbacks is that all that exposure tends to ruin your television-watching experience. At least if you're Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota.

With the Titans off with a bye last weekend, Mariota took the opportunity to settle in on the couch for an afternoon of watching football on TV. Unfortunately, he saw a little too much of himself.

Mariota said Monday his ads for companies like Nissan and Subway seemed to play constantly.

“Too many times,” Mariota said, per the Tennessean. “I just turn my head away. My parents and girlfriend give me a hard time every single time they were on.”

While Mariota said the ads are well done, he gave himself poor marks for his performance.

“Subway and all the other sponsors did a great job,” Mariota said, “but I don’t think of myself as a very good actor.”

Unfortunately for Mariota, if he keeps up his strong play, the endorsement opportunities and ad appearances are unlikely to slow down.

Mariota was named the NFL's offensive rookie of the month for September after throwing for eight touchdowns in Tennessee's first three games.
