Manziel's father: Johnny won't make it to 24th birthday without help

The concerns for Johnny Manziel have escalated far beyond his tenuous status in Cleveland.

Manziel's father, Paul, told the Dallas Morning News that his son's life is in peril if he doesn't get the help he needs.

"I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday," Paul Manziel said.

Paul Manziel said his that the Browns quarterback refused to be admitted to local rehabilitation facilities in the the last week. Manziel spent more than 10 weeks at an in-patient facility last year for undisclosed reasons.

The family first tried to get Manziel to go to an addiction facility last Saturday afternoon, the day after the police were called due a domestic incident involved his ex-girlfriend. On Tuesday, Manziel visited Carollton Springs Hospital Hospital, a facility that specializes in chemical dependency and mental illness.

Paul Manziel told the Dallas Morning News that he tried to get Johnny admitted, but was upset that his son was allowed to leave on his own despite telling a local sheriff that he believed Johnny could be suicidal.

"We're trying to get our son better," Paul Manziel told WFAA in Dallas. "We're not there yet."

Hours after the release of a damning police report detailing the alleged events of a domestic incident with his ex-girlfirend, Manziel's agent, Erik Burkhardt, announced that he will no longer be representing the Browns quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Meanwhile the NFL released a statement saying the incident involving Manziel is under review.

As the saying goes, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to turn your life around. It seems Manziel is on the way there, and it will officially arrive in March with his release from Cleveland. Hopefully Manziel can get the treatment he needs to get his life back on track and salvage his career.
