Los Angeles Rams Make Surprising Move By Cutting Akeem Ayers

Akeem Ayers turned out to be one of the biggest cuts for the Los Angeles Rams as the team trimmed the roster to 53 players.

Nothing is safe when it comes to earning a spot on the 53-man roster in the NFL and unfortunately for Akeem Ayers, the linebacker turned out to be one of the biggest surprise cuts by the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.

All teams were forced to have their rosters slimmed down to 53 players by late Saturday and it’s safe to say the team’s decision to terminate the contract of Ayers was certainly a surprising one. Ayers originally joined Los Angeles prior to the 2015 season on a two-year deal following stints with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots, but it looks like the former UCLA standout will be searching for a new team to play with in 2016.

The Rams’ defense was one of the main reasons behind the team’s 7-9 finish and unfortunately for Ayers, the linebacker must not have been a good fit from Jeff Fisher‘s perspective. Despite the questionable move by Los Angeles, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Ayers found a new home sooner rather than later when considering all of teams in need of help at the linebacker position.

On a positive note, at least the team was willing to give fan favorite Nelson Spruce a chance to prove himself after earning a roster spot despite only playing in the preseason opener due to a knee sprain.
