Los Angeles Rams: Les Snead Should've Been Fired With Jeff Fisher

Jeff Fisher drew the heat for the Los Angeles Rams being unable to win. That comes with the territory of being a head football coach.

However, he’s not completely at fault in this. Not enough people are calling GM Les Snead to task for way too many misfires over the past five seasons. Sure, he’s had some notable successes. Aaron Donald is one of the best defensive players in football. Todd Gurley is a top tier running back who has dominated when given actual NFL blocking.

By and large though this team has fallen far below the talent level it should be. At least terms of the ridiculous number of high draft picks they’ve yielded since 2012. Shall we review? Here is a breakdown of the top four rounds of the draft and how many picks the Rams have used in each of them since Snead took over.

That number adds up to 24. The Rams have had 24 picks in the top four rounds of the NFL draft the previous five seasons. What is the record they have to show for it? A paltry 31-45-1. To day only two of the players Snead has drafted managed to reach a Pro Bowl. Notable top 10 picks like Greg Robinson and Tavon Austin have proven to be major disappointments. Yet he continues to survive. Even helping in the search for the next head coach.

Do the Rams really believe the roster could do better with a different coach? That’s a big gamble. Otherwise they’re in danger of creating a seriously toxic situation. Say Snead chooses the next coach and is soon fired afterwards. That means his replacement will inherit a coach who had no say in the man he’s supposed to be drafting, signing and trying to win with.

That almost always leads to disaster due to constant tension and miscommunication. It’s why the team would’ve done a lot better just cutting Snead loose as well. Give their franchise a clean slate. Instead they’re flirting with the same dangers that bedeviled teams like Cleveland and Chicago for years. Lack of continuity and indecision at the top.
