The Kansas City Chiefs made a large group of roster moves Tuesday

As the practice week gets started Wednesday, there have been a ton of roster moves to get caught up on. CB Terrance Mitchell was released Monday in what was preparation for the return of Justin Houston to the active roster. That move should be coming by midday Wednesday.

The team signed several players as the practice squad overhaul proceeded. Safety Jimmy Hall and CB Tyler Patmon were brought in along with quarterback Joel Stave.

Thinning the Offensive line

With rookie Parker Ehinger out on IR, two of Tuesday’s release offered some surprise. The team elected to release two praising offensive linemen in Jarrod Pughsley and Zach Sterup, who was just signed last week. Sterup was reportedly on his way to sign with the New York Jets shortly after being released. Both could have served as useful backups if the team sees more injuries along the offensive line. The team did re-sign guard Jordan Devey back to the practice squad.

Smith looks to return

Alex Smith is working his way through the NFL’s ’return to participation’ protocol. He is expected to practice Wednesday. His return should spark the floundering Chiefs offense as they prepare for the struggling Carolina Panthers.
