Lions should look back to '95 season for inspiration after 0-3 start
The Detroit Lions are 0-3 to start the season. Twenty years ago, they started with the same record and turned it into a 10-6 season. The Lions finished that year with seven consecutive wins to make the playoffs as a Wild Card team.
The 1995 Lions ended up losing to the Philadelphia Eagles, 58-37, in the first round of the playoffs, but the improbable rally should still serve as inspiration for this year's struggling team.
"We do have 13 games left," Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said after Detroit's most recent loss, per Steve Schrader of the Detroit Free Press. "They're not handing out any trophies after three games, and you can't be eliminated after three games. And I know there's all the stats that are out there about who does what at 0-3. I don't care about all that stuff."
The '95 Lions were led by All-Pro running back Barry Sanders, who rushed for 1,500 yards. They also got over 3,000 yards from wide receivers Herman Moore and Brett Perriman. On top of that, Detroit had two offensive linemen named to the Pro Bowl in Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover.
For this year's Lions squad to replicate the magic of '95, Detroit's offensive superstars must step up and shine.
