Lions place RB Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve with foot injury
The Detroit Lions have placed starting running back Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve with a foot injury, the team announced on Wednesday morning.
Abdullah sustained a left foot sprain in the Lions' 16–15 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and received a second opinion on the injury from Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte on Tuesday, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Abdullah, 23, started both of Detroit's games this season and ran for 101 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per attempt. Theo Riddick and Dwayne Washington figure to get more work out of the backfield.
The Lions picked Abdullah in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Nebraska, and he started nine of 16 games last season, rushing for 597 yards with two touchdowns.
In corresponding moves, the Lions also signed wide receiver Aaron Dobson, and added linebacker Zavier Gooden and running back George Winn to their practice squad.
The Lions are 1–1 to start the season and will play the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Week 3.
