Lions part ways with CB Chris Houston while he rehabs from surgery
One season into a five-year, $25 million deal, the Detroit Lions released cornerback Chris Houston.
Despite being razor-thin at the cornerback position, the Lions parted ways with the 29-year-old while he rehabbed a toe injury.
“Chris Houston underwent a significant medical procedure this spring,” the Lions said, via a statement. “Both parties felt that the best course of action at this time was to release Chris and allow him to rehabilitate away from the Club. The Lions appreciate Chris’ contributions over the years and wish him the best in his recovery.”
Houston, who was set to earn $3.5 million in base salary this year, earned $7.5 million for one season in Detroit.
"We anticipate Chris will make a full recovery and return to football this year," Jonathan Feinsod, Houston’s agent, told FOXSports.com.
Selected in the second-round of the 2007 NFL Draft, the Falcons traded him after three season for multiple picks.
The Lions have been encouraged by second-year cornerback Darius Slay and will be slated to start opposite veteran Rashean Mathis.
