John Elway likes this draft's crop of offensive tackles

Thursday night's draft could be 2008 all over again.

Eight offensive tackles were selected in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, including Ryan Clady to the Broncos at No. 12.

Seven years later, Denver is back on the market for blockers and John Elway likes his early-round options.

"There are a lot of good tackles in the draft," Elway said during his pre-draft press conference last week. "That is one area of the draft that does have some depth, especially at the top."

Denver doesn't own a top pick. But many draftniks predict there will be a run on tackles at the end of the first round, and that's exactly where Elway sits.

The Lions, Cardinals, Panthers, and Ravens could all use a tackle and pick ahead of Denver. Two of Denver's AFC West foes, the Chargers and Chiefs could be targeting one, too.

The Broncos might have to move up to secure the guy he likes -- a measure Elway sounds prepared to make if needed.

"We do have the ammunition, which is good," Elway said. "It's always expensive going up, though."
