Joey Bosa's mom on her son's holdout with Chargers: 'Wish we pulled an Eli Manning'

It appears the stalemate between the San Diego Chargers and No. 3-overall pick Joey Bosa is getting uglier by the day. The two sides haven't talked since exchanging contract proposals July 28, according to Pro Football Talk.

Now it looks like Bosa's mom might have added some fuel to the fire. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a source authenticated a Facebook comment left by Cheryl Bosa about her son's ongoing dispute with the team.

"It bums me out for him so much," she wrote to a friend. "Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day."

For those who don't remember, Eli Manning was originally drafted by the Chargers with the first-overall pick in the 2004 draft. But Manning's father -- former Saints QB Archie -- had told the club that his son had no desire to sign with San Diego. The Chargers traded Eli Manning to the Giants for a package that included No. 4 pick Philip Rivers.

Bosa's holdout, which is the longest since the 2011 labor deal that simplified the process of signing rookies, stems from offset language in his fully guaranteed deal. The Chargers want to defer a sizeable amount of his signing bonus to 2017 while he seeks either no offset language of the bonus to be paid in full in 2016.
