Jim Irsay: Draft trades a possibility for Colts
The Indianapolis Colts hold the No. 29 overall selection in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft and are prepared to be aggressive, if necessary.
Team owner Jim Irsay told Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star, the Colts are open to a number of options as the organization looks to add to what it considers a Super Bowl-caliber roster.
"It's not an impossibility that we'd trade down of or trade up even," Irsay said. "So it'll be interesting as the day comes upon us.
"I told Ryan (Grigson) an old general manager's mantra: You don't dictate to the draft, the draft dictates to you. I really think we're going to look at the best player there. Of course sitting there at (pick) 29, you really don't know who is going to be there. It really could be a number of different positions or people."
Irsay also outlined what he believes to the team's areas of need heading in the draft, including along the offensive line, where the status of starting right tackle Gosder Cherilus remains uncertain. Cherilus finished last season on injured reserve and had knee surgery in January.
"Obviously there's needs at safety, at right tackle, possibly," Irsay said. "We'll see how (Cherilus) does in his rehab and how that goes. But we're going to look for the best player in the draft for sure."
In all, the Colts have nine selections in the draft.
