Jets QB Fitzpatrick to have thumb surgery Friday
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will have surgery on his injured left thumb Friday, but is not expected to miss any games.
Fitzpatrick tore a ligament in the thumb at Oakland on Nov. 1 and played through the injury in two games while wearing a molded brace on his non-throwing hand. Doctors told the quarterback he would eventually need surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and he decided to do it the day after New York's 22-17 loss to Buffalo on Thursday night.
The Jets don't play again until Nov. 22 at Houston, giving Fitzpatrick nine days to recover.
Fitzpatrick said earlier in the week he was told the longer he waits, surgery could become more complicated because the ligament will start to shrink.
