Jets ex-Packers RB Green off waivers
The New York Jets bolstered their backfield by claiming running back Alex Green, who led Green Bay in rushing last season, off waivers from the Packers.
With Mike Goodson serving a four-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Green will likely serve as a pass-catching running back in Goodson's absence behind Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.
The Jets also were awarded tackle Ben Ijalana from Indianapolis and linebacker Scott Solomon from Tennessee off waivers Sunday.
To make room on the roster, the team released running back Kahlil Bell and linebacker Danny Lansanah, and placed linebacker Josh Mauga on injured reserve.
Green, a third-round pick out of Hawaii by Green Bay in 2011, ran for a team-leading 464 yards last season with 18 catches for 125 yards.
Ijalana was a second-round pick out of Villanova in 2011. He played in four games as a rookie with Indianapolis, but didn't play in any last season.
Solomon had four tackles in 13 games for the Titans last season after being a seventh-round draft pick out of Rice.
Bell, in his second stint with the Jets, led the team with 114 yards and four touchdowns in the preseason. Lansanah, who hadn't been in the NFL since 2009, was one of the team's most consistent performers this summer with 13 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble.
The Jets also added seven players to their practice squad: wide receiver Michael Campbell, linebacker Troy Davis, defensive tackle Tevita Finau, center Dalton Freeman, safety Rontez Miles, tight end Chris Pantale and offensive tackle J.B. Shugarts.
