Jets' Brandon Marshall says he considered retiring a couple years ago
In his first season with the New York Jets, Brandon Marshall has emerged as the team's No. 1 wideout by a fairly wide margin. In just four games, Marshall has caught 30 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns, eclipsing the 100-yard mark in the last three games.
It's hard to imagine the Jets' offense without Marshall in it, but it almost didn't happen after he considered stepping away from the game a couple of years ago. Marshall talked about his reasoning on Showtime's "Inside the NFL."
"I had a moment a couple years ago, and it was because my body wasn't responding to the hip surgery I had," Marshall said, via NJ.com. "I had three hip surgeries. And for me, everything's in my preparation, my workout. And I didn't have it in me to get up and work out."
What helped Marshall get back to football was an intervention after he didn't want to go back to Chicago from Florida in the offseason.
"This was just two, three years ago," he said. "Last year was probably when I finally got over it, when I finally started to do some of the things I felt like I was able to do in the past."
Fortunately, Marshall was able to work through personal issues and get back onto the field to help the Jets to a 3-1 record.
