Jets activate guard Willie Colon from active-PUP list

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) The New York Jets activated guard Willie Colon from the active/physically unable to perform list, and he participated in the team's first padded practice Saturday.

Colon was placed on the active/PUP list Wednesday when players reported for camp because of pain in his left knee. Both Colon and coach Todd Bowles were optimistic Friday that he would be activated soon, with the guard saying that he felt good and it would be ''time to roll'' when he was activated.

''Physically, he looked healthy,'' Bowles said Saturday after practice. ''I wasn't concentrating on him the whole time, but I saw him in individual drills and it looked like he was moving around. He sounded like he was having fun, so it was good to see.''

The 32-year-old Colon has been the starter at right guard the last two seasons and will be competing with several players, including Oday Aboushi, Brian Winters and Brent Qvale.

Running back Stevan Ridley (knee) and defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson (hamstring) remain on the active-PUP list.
