Jerry Jones sets deadline to make decision on Tony Romo's Cowboys fate

Tony Romo technically is still a member of the Dallas Cowboys, but all signs point toward the team eventually severing ties with the veteran quarterback. The ongoing question has been will Dallas release the oft-injured 36-year-old or ship him in a deal?

The Cowboys have been coy regarding their plans, but on Tuesday owner Jerry Jones shed some light on when the club plans to resolve the Romo saga.

When asked by NFL Network’s Albert Breer if the team has set a deadline to make a decision, Jones said “before training camp.”

The Cowboys haven’t set a start date for their training camp this year, but their first full practice occurred July 30 last year. Dallas, and especially Romo, would probably like to have this resolved well before that date, especially with the NFL Draft fast approaching.

Romo has played in just five games the past two seasons due to a number of injuries. Despite his age and injury history, Romo reportedly has drawn interest from teams, though members of other clubs can’t comment on him because he’s still on the Cowboys roster.
