Jags name John Idzik special assistant to GM
John Idzik, who joined the Jacksonville Jaguars front office in February as a salary cap consultant, has been given a new job as special assistant to general manager Dave Caldwell.
The team announced the move as part of a restructuring of their personnel department on Thursday.
Idzik, the former New York Jets general manager, will continue to be involved in Jacksonville's salary cap management, but will also take on expanded duties.
"John Idzik will be wearing many hats for us,” Caldwell said in a statement released by the team, “I have been impressed with how he has assimilated himself into our culture the last three months. He has a vast knowledge of the salary cap and has a history of negotiating contracts and that is an area we feel we could use an additional resource.
“He will also be involved in the player personnel department. He will work closely with myself, (director of player personnel) Chris Polian and (director of football administration) Tim Walsh in his role.”
Idzik spent two seasons as the Jets GM before being let go. Prior to that, he spent six years as vice president of football administration for the Seattle Seahawks.
