Is Devin Smith ready to finally return to Jets?
As the wide receiver corps of the New York Jets continues to improve, is Devin Smith finally ready to return and contribute? His regular-season debut might be coming sooner than later.
It’s not easy coming back from a torn ACL injury. This past Summer, the New York Jets, unfortunately, had to place wide receiver Devin Smith on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Not only did Smith miss all of the Jets training camps, practices, and preseason football, but he has yet to make his debut this season.
From all accounts, Smith is on his way to a full recovery and eligible to play. He’s yet to be activated but over the next two weeks or so, could be on the starting roster of the Jets. It’s no secret that they could use his speed and ability to take the top off of defenses. Despite his injury, Smith has undoubtedly been able to learn a lot on the sideline and absorb the offensive playbook of the Jets thoroughly.
As the Jets prepare to take on the Miami Dolphins on the road this week, head coach Todd Bowles recently chimed in on if Smith will be playing. While there is a slim chance of hope, here is what Bowles said about him, courtesy of the Media Relations Department of the Jets:
On if there is any chance that Devin Smith plays this weekend…
It’s possible. We can take him off in the next two weeks. We’ve got to see what kind of moves we can make.

With wide receiver Eric Decker out for the season due to a shoulder tear and Brandon Marshall receiving major attention by defenses, Smith could be a great piece to add on offense. Despite his rocky start to life in the NFL, there is hope that Smith could return to what made him famous back when he was with Ohio State. A speedy and big play-making receiver that has major potential to make a huge impact in the pros.
Overall, once Smith is activated, hopefully, he can bring yet another much-needed spark on offense. The Jets need all the playmakers they can get to salvage what is left of the regular season.
