Hurricane Joaquin could cause postponements of NFL, college games

As the calendar turns to October, many people outside of Florida and other states that get pounded by tropical storms forget that hurricane season still has two months left.

This weekend, areas along the Eastern part of the United States -- particularly in the Mid-Atlantic region of Virginia and Maryland -- could get hit with what is now Hurricane Joaquin. In addition to residents needing to be ready, the NFL and college football conferences have started to prepare in case games have to be moved or postponed.

In the NFL's case, if the storm affects the D.C. area, it reportedly could potentially affect Sunday's contest betweeen the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins, according to Pro Football Talk:

In college football, Michigan is scheduled to play at Maryland on Saturday night, but that reportedly also could change:
