Houston's Ryan Mallett not changing approach to preseason start

After backing up Brian Hoyer in last week's preseason opener against the Denver Broncos, Ryan Mallett will get the start at quarterback when the Texans face the Denver Broncos on Saturday.

Mallett, who completed 10 of 11 passes for 90 yards and led three scoring drives against the 49ers, said he'll take the same approach to starting that he did last week.

“I’ll attack the game the same way I always do,” Mallet said, per the Houston Chronicle. “Try to keep us out of bad situations, move the football, get first downs. Just go from there. You try to learn from every game and put things in your memory bank.”

When asked what he hoped to improve on from his preseason debut, Mallett said, “(I’ll try to) go 11-for-11.”

The fifth-year quarterback is competing with Hoyer for the starting job in training camp.

Head coach Bill O'Brien said he hasn't chosen his starter yet, which means a strong performance against the Broncos could go a long way for Mallett.
