Green Bay Packers TE Andrew Quarless believes he's an 'underdog'
When Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless declares himself one of the NFL's top tight ends, it's bound to raise a few eyebrows. Quarless has been in the league since the 2010 season and has yet to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards for his career.
But that's the exact mentality Packers tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot wants his starting tight end to have, according to Tyler Dunne of the Journal Sentinel.
"Absolutely, absolutely," Fontenot told the Journal Sentinel. "Guys need to believe in themselves. Not with arrogance, but they need to be able to believe in themselves and see the true picture of what they're capable of. And he certainly does."
Quarless, a former fifth-round pick out of Penn State, feels as though he's underrated. The 26-year-old has the versatility to get the job done in-line, split out and from the backfield at 6-foot-4 and 252 pounds. He looks around the league, according to the Journal Sentinel, and doesn't see many guys who can do what he does.
"I definitely feel like an underdog," Quarless said, per the Journal Sentinel. "I watch the film—every week. I watch the film and see what's out there. And I know myself and my potential. So I've been working hard, keeping that in the back of my mind and staying hungry, trying to be the best and take this team back to the Super Bowl."
Quarless is coming off a season in which he set career-high marks for starts (11), receiving yards (323) and touchdown receptions (3). He'll look to build on that modest success in 2015.
