Giants players expect 'chippy' practices ahead with the Bengals

The New York Giants will practice with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday, and throughout the week leading up to their preseason showdown on Friday night. Although head coach Tom Coughlin has warned players about getting involved in any brawls, but the players are expecting a higher intensity nonetheless.

"I'm sure it's going to be a heated practice, it's going to have that game intensity," said offensive lineman Justin Pugh, per Newsday. "I kind of would compare it to a Senior Bowl when you're there and everyone is trying to prove a point. They're going hard, even in practice. Sometimes when you're going against your own teammates, you may pull up a little bit and not want to hurt somebody. I feel like if you're going against someone [else], it's going to be live action when we're going out there and playing Cincinnati. As close as you can get to a game without being in one."

Playing against their own teammates, the Giants have already seen two camp fights breakout. One fight involved potential starters Justin Pugh and Damontre Moore. Giants linebacker Jon Beason sums up why it would be foolish to guarantee that there will be no extracurricular activity during this special practice week.

"It's going to be more chippy because it's chippy at practice here," said Beason, per Newsday. "You see scuffles break out and it's your own teammates, so imagine if it's an opposing team."

The Giants will have to keep from getting involved in a true brawl with the Bengals. Unlike Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, Coughlin does not approve of these activities under any circumstances. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis echoed Coughlin's sentiments on Monday.

"We want to get [work] done without any of the extracurricular," Lewis told reporters, per Newsday. "Whether it being talking and so forth, all of the nonsense and horseplay, we don't need that. We're here to have two good days of work and football."

The action gets started on Tuesday afternoon. Stay tuned for more details.
