Giants' Jones proposes after Super Bowl
Both Greg Jones and his girlfriend won rings on Super Bowl Sunday.
The rookie linebacker dropped to one knee Sunday night and popped the question as confetti streamed down on him and his victorious teammates on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Jones' girlfriend, Amanda Piechowski, said "Yes" just minutes after the Giants' 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots.
"She was bawling," Jones told The Star-Ledger Monday as the Giants left their hotel to return home. "I was like, 'I don't know how long she's going to keep crying.'"
He said if the Giants had lost, he would have delayed the proposal to a more appropriate time.
The 23-year-old, drafted in the sixth round in 2011, asked a teammate who was not playing to hold onto the ring for him during the game.
Jones and his fiancee met three years ago at Michigan State, and have been dating for about a year.
"She definitely knows how I feel. A speech wasn't even needed," he said.
"Just everything we've been through together. She's been here since Day One and she knew me long before everything else."
Jones is the backup middle linebacker for the Giants, playing primarily on special teams. He started at linebacker earlier in the season.
